Since discovering Mozambique in Laguna Beach, I’ve yet to think of something they don’t offer. An amazing happy hour, seven days a week? Check. Fantastic food served in a polished environment at reasonable prices? Check. Live music, good enough to capture the attention of an entire bar? Check. Mozambique Steakhouse and Coastal Lounge has it all. And, they do it all well.
Our evening began with cocktails and appetizers on the ocean-view patio at Shebeen, Mozambique’s upstairs lounge. While I’d like to comment on the impressive wine list, pleasing ambiance or our gracious server, all I can really remember is sinking my teeth into a perfectly cooked prawn dipped in Peri-Peri sauce and the delectable chicken slider on a warm, homemade Portuguese roll.
Dinner in the dining room was just as delicious. After another warm roll with maple pecan butter, we delved into our entrées, which were impressive both visually and in taste. The Moroccan Style Chilean Sea Bass rested atop a pillow of to-die-for pesto mashed potatoes, and was decorated with a delicate pile of artichoke, fennel, and roasted tomatoes. The Filet Mignon was cooked to perfection, accompanied by an exceptionally unique steak sauce for dipping. The salmon with saffron wine sauce over a bed of grilled asparagus - simply divine.
Though we didn’t save room for dessert this time, the macadamia, white chocolate, and banana bread pudding; or the flourless chocolate cake with poached Moroccan apricots, could easily convince me to return.
Not to be overlooked is the warmth of the staff, who make guests feel like family. So next time you’re in the mood for say…anything – head to Mozambique.
Still not convinced? Get this: Mozambique has a Safe Ride program – they will pick up and drop off your party for free, within a 15-mile radius of the restaurant. Now that’s customer service.
